The pond, used for irrigating the golf course, is also the focal point for the Howard Buth Memorial Arboretum. Hikers will enjoy spring flowers, brilliant autumn foliage, and plants with interesting foliage and bark all season long. Trees and shrubs in the arboretum have been labeled with genus species, cultivar and common names for easy identification of your favorites. Park Amenities:
Glacier Hills County Park 1664 Friess Lake Rd., Hubertus, WI 53033 Village of Richfield Park Open Year-Round 6am - 10pm Glacier Hills County Park is located on what geologists term an interlobate moraine. Between ten and twenty thousand years ago, the Green Bay and Lake Michigan Glacier Lobes butted against each other. When they receded, approximately 10,000 years ago, they left the interesting and unique landform we call the Kettle Moraine. Glacier Hills County Park, originally developed as St. Amelians Orphanage Youth Camp, became a Washington County Park in 1976. The park consists of 140 acres of land and includes approximately 1200 feet of frontage on Friess Lake. The gravel soil, deposited as a result of glacial action, supports a forest of oaks, maples, basswood, ironwood, elm and birch. Over 120 varieties of birds have been observed in the park. Glacial formations can be seen along the trails that wind around depressions called kettles, across rounded kames, and over a sinewy esker that was once the bed of a subglacial river. The rounded pebbles and gravel soil, typical of the interlobate moraine area, are indicative of the powerful grinding force of the glacier. Ponds, marshes,and a bog can be found at the base of several of the kettle holes. Friess Lake was formed from the melting of a giant ice block left by the receding glacier. It is situated along the bank of the Milwaukee River and is a popular spot for canoeing and fishing. There is a reservable shelter, playground and picnic area. The park includes a scenic nature trail that winds its way along the river and through a wetland. Park Amenities:

The 234 acres of rolling Kettle Moraine hills, valleys and meadows provide many panoramic views, miles of hiking trails and picnic opportunities. The 105 acre park is an old farmstead, and evidence of this can be seen in its barns which have been converted and updated into reservable shelters. The Park contains excellent recreational opportunities including relatively level trails for hiking and cross country skiing. Also available are a sledding hill, playground and ice-skating pond. The park has a restored prairie with native grasses and wildflowers that create colorful seasonal displays. Soccer fields at the northwest part of the park are used by the Germantown Kickers soccer club for games and practices. Soccer fields are not available to the general public except for soccer only use by groups and by arrangement with the club. For information, the Germanton Kickers Soccer Club at 262-573-9290. Yahr County Park 7999 Orchard Valley Road, West Bend, WI 53090 Town of Farmington Park Hours: 6 AM - 10 PM Park is open year-round Washington County's newest park, Leonard J. Yahr County Park, opened August 14, 2007.Owned by the Carl Erler family since the late 1800's, the property was used as a sawmill that was eventually converted into a sulfur match factory in the late 1870's. In 1943, when Leonard and Ruth Yahr retained ownership, portions of the land were used as a dairy farm and later, as an apple orchard. The property was donated in 1999 by the Leonard J. Yahr family to the Washington County Planning and Parks Department for use as a County Park. Located along the north shore of Erler Lake in the Town of Farmington, the 38 acre County Park provides many opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation. The relatively flat terrain and well-drained sandy soil make this Park available to the public even during a wet season. Oaks and maples are the predominant deciduous tree species. The swampy areas support a combination of hardwoods and cedars. Wooded hiking trails throughout the park provide a variety of experiences throughout the seasons with spring ephemerals early in the year, shady paths in summer and fall color in autumn. The Park provides both educational and recreational opportunities. Hiking and skiing loops traverse the Park. The pond, with adjacent streams, makes this an excellent area for aquatic studies. The rental house is located just 150' from the Main Hall & Chapel, which often holds large events and weddings throughout the year (weddings often go until 11:00 pm - 12:00 pm on Saturday evenings and can be heard from the house). The house has 4 bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 people, a great place to stay for groups attending events at the park. There are 1.5 bathrooms, a laundry room, full kitchen, living room, a two car garage, and a private deck and backyard.
